The operating manual correctly states that 50mm is the maximum. The motor power was better than expected and the unit is sturdy for such a small unit. I was able to fabricate ( using elm wood) an exact replica knob 45mm in diameter. The tools included worked well.

Absolutely amazing value for the money. I turned 2 small bowls in just one afternoon. It's a small lathe so the biggest bowl you can turn is about 6" but it looks like it would be great for turning pens too. You need a light touch - it will jam easily however, if your tools are sharp and you take it slow it works great. I don't have room for a full size lathe and I'm over my tool budget for the year so this has been a fantastic alternative. If your chisels are too long to get inside the bowl the tailstock comes off easily with 2 screws. LOVING THIS LATHE !!!!!
