I would say that maybe 95-97% of the dust falls directly and sits right on top of the filter. A bit that might fall off the edge could get caught in the fan's downstream flow and fly all over the place. I folded the towel in half and put the vacuum in the middle to suck up most of the dust that was flying around. Thanks to the product I can do my own nails
