   I got two of these for my 4 year old twins birthday. They absolutely loved digging for gems! We had an adult use the tool that came with the kit, and had the kids help with dusting and cleaning the gems off. It took almost 40 minutes for us to find the gems, dig them out, and clean them off. They love looking at the stones with the magnifying glass. I'd highly recommend this- it was fun to use and educational!

   I have actually bought this multiple times now for my little one and she loves it each and every time. One thing I ensure that she does though is take her time to do it correctly by using the dig tools and not try to rush through it. (Think marshmallow test) She finds great enjoyment comparing the rocks she finds to the book that included as a guide. Also, when used correctly the pack tends to really promote patience and a little analytical skill along with it. It can last quite a few hours in one sitting or it can be used multiple times in short spurts. Enjoy!

   My daughter wanted this set for some time and finally ordered it with some of her holiday money. She had fun beating all the gems out of what was basically a giant piece of chalk. This is very, very messy. Do outside in a spot that you don't mind the mess or can easily wash the chalk pieces and dust away. There are no incredible or particularly interesting gem specimens in this set, but they are pretty rocks that kids seem to like.

   My kids loved this. Especially my 6 year old son. He spent 2 days scraping and picking away to expose the crystals and was so excited each time he found a new one. We thought we were shorted 2, after we had broken the mass up into little chunks but I poked back through the rubble and found 2 more. They were small but still nice. We just ordered another set because he enjoyed this one so much. Anything that helps keep him off the electronics and engaged is a winner for me! Highly recommend! The stones I closed are all nice quality and sizes. We were able to identify them using the book that came with it, which gave nice descriptions and background I formation about the stones, including the place of origin.

We added a little bit of water as recommended, and it made it a little bit easier. It is a little messy, so we put it on a tray on a plastic tablecloth.    My three young ones just loved this. We were all surprised at the size, quality and amount of gemstones hidden inside this little treasure. Very glad we got it all my kids were happy and were able to "discover" some hidden treasure of their own. The gemstone variety was fantastic and the size and quality was above our expectations.Of course don't expect to be pulling out quarter sized gemstones, The sizes ranged from good sized peas upwards to good sized marbles. And there were no duplicates which surprised me. The largest were a quartz/amethyst piece and a pyrite nugget. The smallest would've been pieces of Jasper and Malachite - however they were all beautiful and very definitive looking. Once we rinsed them off with water, the kids (ages 4-10) could easily identify them from the pictures in the instruction booklet. Fun gift for all.
