For easy use and maintenance, this Baby Play Mat is water resistant and non-toxic.     This thing is indestructible! We have had this mat for a little over a year. Beyond the reason we bought it, which was to let our baby more comfortably and safely play on our hardwood floors, this mat has become one of his favorite toys (because of course, why not play with a mat?). He (now much more mobile) turns this mat on its side to make a wall to hide behind, folds it over to make a tunnel to crawl through, keeps parts folded or just folds the mat in a way it was not designed for, and shoves random toys under to walk over (his invention, definitely a balance enhancer, I would have been worried about damage to the mat or him), we have bent the mat to allow balls to roll in odd directions, we even have used it as an impromptu bouncy horse while all folded up (good forearm workout) and I'm sure more that I have forgotten.
