I think this is a really nice fountain pen for the price, and a great value. It has a very nice solid weight and feel to it. You might experiment using different inks and papers, and see what works best for you. I use Quink black ink, and it always seems to start writing right away, even without using it for a few days. As an introduction to fountain-penmanship, it is a great start and I recommend it highly. If there is one little problem, it would be that when you take the cap off, it does not fit nicely on the other end of the pen, as you would rather expect it too. But its great value far exceeds this small problem.

I like the honest reviews previously provided. I smoothed up the nibs on both pens I bought, though I didn't have to. The fit and finish differ on the two pens I bought. If you buy only one pen the previous comment will not make sense to you, buy at least two and you will understand my point. This is not a negative, just reaffirming you are getting the quality control you are paying for. This pen is a really good starter fountain pen for a few reasons. 1- Entry Price, especially if you do not like it once its in your hand. 2-Looks and feels pretty durable with the metal body. 3- Easy to swap parts to repair or improve. That last one is what makes this a good buy. You may get lucky and it writes great right out of the plastic sleeve it comes in. If not, there are several suppliers of nice steel nibs that can be swapped in less than 30 seconds. Lots of videos out there with people replacing the nibs on this exact pen. I write a lot of notes for work daily, enjoy using fountain pens, and like to tinker. The like to tinker part make these a great buy, and also great writing pens as well.

The medium nib is smooth (very little feedback) and ink flow is generous (a wet writer) with no skipping or blotting (using Kaweco Royal Blue ink). This pen has a nice heft and finish, giving the impression of all metal construction and a classic style. The cap seats with a satisfying click, one of the best I've experienced on a fountain pen. The pocket clip is quite stiff so it may not be an ideal pocket pen. The moderately triangular grip makes it a good choice for fountain pen beginners and more experienced users who appreciate a subtle influence on their grip. This pen looks as good and performs as well as many of my more expensive name brand pens. I have no hesitation in recommending it, particularly for new or budget conscious users.

I have half a dozen fountain pens from rather inexpensive to luxury. I liked the color and shape of this pen and thought I'd give it a try. It has a nice weight and is "fatter" than most of my pens. I was surprised by how smoothly it writes and also the quality and look of the nib. The only thing I don't care for is the snap mechanism of the cap. It feels more like a magnet than a true snap lock. It comes off very easily. However, if you pick it up by the cap, the pen stays put unless you give it a good shake. Same with picking it up by the barrel. Just something to be aware of; it does not negate the great qualities of this pen. I'm very pleased I tried this pen.

This pen arrived in excellent condition on the date promised. The Jinhao is a combination of attractiveness and decent quality for not much money. The nib was scratchy even on Tomoe River paper so I tuned the tines of the nib and polished the tip a little and it became a very nicely writing pen. Tuning and polishing is a little skill that everyone who buys cheap pens would do well to learn. In most instances it can turn a scratchy pen into a really nice writer. I own two Jinhaos and this one is my favorite. A very good buy for lovely pens. If you find that the nib isn't saveable, you can buy replacement nibs online from reputable pen dealers.

These are quality made Chinese fountain pens, comes with ink converter for bottled ink. It can also use the international standard plastic ink cartridges (not included) You will get about 7 times as much value if you use bottled ink vs. cartridges. This is a pretty good price if you want it faster than being shipped from China. Really well made and beautiful colors. I think the X450 is the best of the models Jinhao makes, the X750 is good but not as smooth writing, the 159 is very good but a very large pen. These have good nibs, I doubt that they are gold plated , but the work fine. The are mostly .07 and have a medium nib delivery.

I am fairly new to the fountain pen market though, I have always been a fan of writing instruments. I have really never been able to afford or justify the purchase of a luxury fountain pen though. I am able to consider some luxury options now but, I wanted to start out slow to learn how to write/fill/care for a fountain pen and not spend a luxury price just to find out I couldn't or wouldn't enjoy the experience. I gathered information watching a review of this pen and for the price (just unbelievable really) decided to give it a try.

The pen is gorgeous! The price is very not expensive for such a performance. Do not distinguish from handles for 2-3 thousand Rub. (more expensive did not use). Appearance is impeccable, very high quality. Well lies in the hand, weary. It closes tightly. Opens with a nice click. Writes perfectly... From the finest lines to the lines, 1mm thick. Included converter. Recommend. A++++

This is a beautiful, smooth writing pen. It is only available with a medium nib, but it uses #6 sized nips and the nib is easy to replace if you want a different line width. I was amazed that it started writing immediately after I filled it. No startup problems. Goulet Pens sells a very nice nib online and has video instructions on how to replace the nibs.

This pen is amazing! It costs so little, yet it performs like a much more expensive pen. The weight is very nice, not too heavy. The cap will post nicely if one wishes to do so. The ink flows nicely out of the medium nib. I bought two in different colors! This is a great pen for those who are interested in getting started in the use of fountain pens.
