   This product is a great cheap way to digitize old tapes! Highly recommend.The device itself is simple, you just plug into your computer and plug the composite cables into the device and vcr. The product does come with a cd with digitizing software, but don't bother with that. Download OBS online from obsproject.com (it's free and safe!) and use that to capture the video. The instructions on this product even show you how to do it with OBS and what settings to toggle with before you start recording. It was super easy and straightforward.

After seeing the cost of this and decent reviews, I thought, ok, can't hurt to try this inexpensive thing. AND IT WORKS GREAT! the instructions were not the best, but youtube people made it easy and I am up and rolling on recording family memories!

   I am frequently stymied by devices that refuse to work under Linux, or require proprietary software to use. This thing is just plain simple. Connect your computer on one end, connect the video source at the other end, and use any program you have capable of recording video from a camera. The system sees the device as a webcam, and is thusly quite easy to use. You can then use whatever your choice of DVD software is, to transfer the video to disc.

   I have Window10 laptop used to convert my old 8mm tape from my old video player machine. It was easy for me. Just follow the instruction to install and setup app, the rest runs smoothly. I can not complain the video quality because it all depends on the original tape recording. I would say how much I paid and how much I got here was satisfied.

   Used this to transfer home videos from Hi8 tapes. I played them on my camcorder and connected the A/V cable to the adapter. You have to download the software that actually records the video and that is the tricky part. It takes a little bit to get it set up. I did have some issues with some segments not recording the audio, but didn't realize until I had recorded it all and tried to play it back. The software seems a little glitchy but usually worked if I closed out and restarted.So, the device worked great to connect to my computer. If you have video recording software that you like, you will be fine. If you have to download the program, be patient until you get it running but it does work.

   We are an IT business and having been in business for over 22 years, I can tell you that we have seen and used a ton of products and devices, some good, some bad, some expensive and some not so much. This device is an inexpensive device to transfer your video from analog devices such as a camcorder or other similar device and make it easy to put into a digital format to be saved and edited. The software that it comes with is fairly easy to use, with the only caveat being that when we used it we noticed that it only saved in AVI, however, you can change that to another format through conversion, so it is not a totally bad thing that would deter from this device being used. We have seen similar devices over the years that cost 10 times what this cost and they do not do a 10th of what this does, so we can easily say to pick this one up!

   Worked to convert my 8mm tapes from 2001 to a video on my laptop! Only complain is, and maybe I'm doing something wrong, when you are converting the videos it needs to be dead silent or it picks up the sound from in the room. I was trying to get a specific video and you could hear a TV in the background and my dog barked so it needs to be in a room in the basement or something when you do the recordings to transfer it so it doesn't pick up other sounds I had to completely start the video over because it had so much background noise. Still much cheaper than other options tho.

   I had some concerns when I ordered this audio/video converter. Don't use this converter with a USB hub--you know that little box that expands your USB capacity? You WILL be disappointed. The converter must plug into your computer's USB port. It has the RCA red/yellow/black plugins, but I had more success with the S-Video output on my old camcorders. I managed to digitize most--but not all--of my 30-year-old VHS Hi*8 video recordings. Some were simply unreadable by my camcorder. So the converter is a good value for the price.

   Works pretty great to digitize old 8mm tapes. I am getting some funky colors that do not appear on my camera's viewfinder, however I can't totally attribute that to this device. Too many variables (my camera, my cables, OBS software, etc.) to give this a bad review. For the price, this thing definitely does the trick.
