It's bad because sometimes you have to touch it several times for it to respond, but it's good in that it won't turn on at the slightest vibration and waste battery. The birds can adjust in brightness and they get "angry" red when they need to charge which is apparently when its 'nap time' according to the 7 year old. I too get angry when I am sleepy so I feel this on a soul deep level. The mini eggs have a dim setting and can be touched to brighten.
