I purchased two and was able to secure our doors with no problem and felt very safe when they were in use and they could not be seen at all from the outside. While I am not sure if this would be able to be used on a hotel door, I would highly recommend them for most styles of doors!

I was hesitant at first to buy this just because of the mixed reviews. I really wanted something to keep the our front door locked more than just a deadbolt. At first I did try it out on one of our closet doors to ensure that it would work properly. First time I installed it to the front it work efficiently. Now that being said I have not tested out how effect it fully is per keeping others out. However it at least will be a deternet and cause a lot of noise if someone ever does try to break in. Which is exactly what I need. I highly recommend anyone that lives alone to have this just to get that peace of mind. Also the only issue I have seen is that links tend to bunch up. It is easily fixed with a little patience.
