If someone were to break in to your place with this in front of the door, it will allow them to get the door open about 3 inches before the stopper stops the door from opening any farther. The alarm goes off IMMEDIATELY though when the door is coming open. It is very sensitive on the high setting. This alarm is LOUD. There is no way you wouldn't know that someone is coming in. This thing will allow you enough time to grab whatever you need to to protect yourself. I bought some for my niece's as well since they live by themselves.

The sensor is really great too... tried it with different door types and it worked every time. My advice if you have pets put them in another room because the noise is ear-piercing and it might scare them. This also works for travel. It was perfect for a hotel stay. It is really nice that it comes in a 2 pack so you can have them in multiple locations. I would 100% recommend this if you live alone or are gone from home for long periods of time.
