It goes back into the bottle with another twist. The brush will be easy to clean due to the plastic it is made out of. It looks to be dishwasher safe and I will try that when I need to. The size is perfect. The handle is not too short as some other reviews have stated. This is just what I wanted.

I use this oil brush for brushing the bottom of pans instead of using spray oil all the time. It works great for that purpose. I only keep vegetable oil in it. It works well. You just push down the handle to put the brush in the oil, then twist to bring it out of the bottle. For me, the handle length is adequate. I like that the bottle part is glass. It sits on the back rim of my stove.
