This drone does all you need for a beginner. I've tried several, had fun with a few but this one is the best by far. It's small but mighty and a whole lot of fun to fly for any age with the dexterity. My 9 yo, (the yongest) flew it easily with little instruction and loves it. It has three speeds to fly at; the first speed is just right for learning. The second speed is fun and speedy, but the third speed is super fast and really made fly with outdoors. It also has an auto hover mode, & does flips. The downside is it has no camera and the batteries don't last very long. But it does come with three batteries & two chargers. I'm willing to take those two cons for the fun factor and the smile on my kids' faces.

My 7 and 10 year-old boys have been flying these drones at least 3x/week for the past 2 months. The multiple included batteries charge rapidly and allow them to fly almost without interruption. I'm particularly surprised at the durability -- my boys try to intentionally crash these drones, and yet somehow they continue to operate. The only problem has been occasional hair/carpet fibers getting caught up in the axle of the propellers (because my sons try flying into blankets, under sofas, etc)... but a little tweezer-work resolves the problem each time. Highly recommend for your kids - and get one for yourself too. :)

Yaw, pitch, and roll control make flying interesting enough for adults, and they are durable enough to survive our younger grandchildren (5 to 7 years old). The longer flight times let you spend more time focussed on your piloting skills, and having 3 batteries allows each of the kids to take a turn before taking a break to charge the batteries. The only complaint for this drone is the same for every other drone on the market that is flown by line of sight; at longer distances, it can be difficult to tell the front from the back.

(I myself am an experienced RC airplane and helicopter pilot.) The red one came with a two-port charger that is more convenient to use than the one provided with the green one, plugged into one of those cell-phone-charger / USB wall warts. Flight time is reasonable - about 4 minutes I think (never yet formally timed a flight). The 3 batteries (technically cells!) provide a good flying session, if you charge them ahead of time.

It was easy to get the hang of flying indoors and after running the three batteries out I haven't crashed since. One battery lasts 6 1/2 minutes, one lasts 6 and the third lasts 5 minutes (I am flying the same loop, same speed, multiple times with each battery, slow speed - all times are approximate within 10 seconds). I have only had it for 24 hours - but if you don't see an update that it died it lasted over a month.

I was amazed how easy this was to fly compared to the older designs. It has good battery life and come with 3 batteries to provide lots of continuous flying time. It takes only minor if any trim and kids can learn to fly quickly. Blades are well guarded so after a lot of crashes it still fly great.

My 8-year-old is having a blast with this. This quadcopter is surprisingly durable. I didn't anticipate that it can take this much abuse. Controlling this can be a challenge until I read about the headless mode. Before headless mode, it was difficult to control it since head would rotate after a few seconds and then your forward push will not align with drone's forward movement. But after activating the headless mode, flying it was so much fun.

You may even want to verify if you need a minor tweak to the trim before handing over to your kid. Of course if your kid is old enough they may already have this figured out. I am fairly certain Duracell batteries will work with my controller, however I am using some old AAA Eneloop rechargeables that are working fine.

This drone is very easy to fly and has three modes for different levels of experience. This drone usually has a run time of around 5-7 minutes per battery (you get three!). The batteries charge pretty quickly and you can charge two batteries at once. Charge time is usually around 20 minutes or so.

A total of three field settings allow the beginner to gradually turn up the speed as they master basic flight controls. I like to call the three modes; (1) training mode (2) intermediate (3) advanced.
