Beginners can get away with using it as long as you are making personal item/gifts for yourself or your family. The needles catch on certain types of yarn and cause the crank to stall. Consider purchasing ONLY if you are going to learn about tube knitting/plane knitting and NOT if you want to make item for sale.

I really like this machine, I can whip up a hat in about 30 mins. It really works best with 3/4 weight, and the smoother the yarn, the better. Once you get to a coarse blend, or a thicker 4/5 worsted, the counter is no longer accurate, and it drops stitches more often.
It's still a great tool to add to my arsenal, I am very pleased.

This machine is easy to set up and use. The instructions are pretty good. Delivery was quick. I did own an Addi, but I gave it away a couple of years ago. I find this little machine is quieter than the Addi and the counter on this is very accurate, so far anyway. If you want to make hats and scarves in a hurry, this machine will do the job! I think the only yarn that really works with this particular machine is #4 worsted weight or #3 - nothing heavier or lighter.
