I live in a very sandy area, so when I'm cutting logs, not only do the teeth on the chain get dull, but the connections in the chain (pins) get worn as well from the sand. This causes the chains to prematurely become useless. This sharpener allows me to easily sharpen the chain amd get some extra mileage from it. However, it's not sharpening from the sides, just grinding the tooth down. If I lived somewhere that wasn't all sand, and the chains lasted longer due to not being constantly sandblasted, I wouldn't use a sharpener like this. It would wear the teeth down long before the rest lf the chain was worn apart. Here in the sand, though, the pins holding the chain together wear out soon enough that it doesn't matter if the teeth get ground down sooner than they should. So for my application - I love it, it sharpens very well.

This is something I have been eying up for a really long time but it’s one of those things that seems too good to be true. It’s fairly easy to set up and use and it does work. It will put an edge back on your blades and get you going again if you hit the dirt and dull your blade. With the price of blades and the difficulty in sharpening them this is a nice tool to have in hand. It had paid for itself already during spring cleanup.

simple and effective. I did have to make the front hole on the bar a bit bigger by drilling it out. Once the devise is locked on the bar, start the saw and push gently to the floor. Once the chain touches the whet stone it will visually create some sparks. Hold that position with very little force for 3 to 5 seconds and you are done.
