This is more of a little lamp and less of a toy. My daughter was having a hard time falling asleep by herself in her room. This lamp projects a perfect rainbow across her wall that she enjoys looking at while she falls asleep. The first night I made up a story about a girl wishing on each color of the rainbow. The next night we played a game saying items we like for each color. Red for cherries, etc. The third night, she just turned on the lamp and jumped into bed, ready to think of sweet things at bedtime.It is battery powered, and you push a button to project the rainbow. It automatically shuts off after a few minutes, so you don't have to worry about anything. It is a great gift for kids who might like an interesting thing to look at during bedtime... or who just might think it's neat to have a rainbow in their room whenever they want. My daughter has been showing it off to visiting friends or family members since she got it.

We bought this for my 4 yr old's birthday. She loves it! She calls it her rainbow maker and sleeps with it. It is very lightweight and feels cheap, but I don't mean that as a bad thing. It WAS inexpensive, and if it were heavier I'm afraid it wouldn't be surviving at my house. My 2 yr old has thrown it a few times, and they carry it all over the house. They've taken off the "mirror", a mylar strip (so nothing that shatters), several times but I've put it back on. I may glue it. It's just held in by tabs on the ends. It could be considered a choking hazzard. My kids have also rubbed off some of the mirror, but it still works. I wouldn't consider this toy educational, though. It's just a cool LED nightlight basically. I still give this a 5 star rating, because I feel like we got what we paid for. My kids LOVE it, and I just realize nothing lasts forever around my house.

I bought this for my twins when they were almost 3--they are now 4 and this is still an every night necessity at bedtime. The two complaints I see are that the light isn't "bright" and that it uses too many batteries. I do NOT have those complaints. There are a couple of settings so if you set it correctly, it shuts off after about 15 minutes. That said, I change the TWO batteries about 4 times a year and if I changed them a little sooner, I would never see the less "bright" light. When the batteries are low, the light dims. This light goes on the walls and ceiling above both their heads and they love it. My 2 year old has gotten her hands on it a couple of times and it has not broken yet. If it did, I would replace it, for sure.Bottom line--buy GOOD batteries and when it starts to dim, if there are complaints, just change them. Seriously, it is not a big deal. And, don't forget to set it so it shuts off on its own after 15 mins.Very cute :-)

I purchased this for my daughters 3rd Birthday and she loves it! I purchased it back in Jan. and it still has vibrant colors. I hope we avoid the problem of it not lasting like other reviewers. I will be buying another for my 5 year old for his birthday, or I may try to talk him into the star projector and hopefully it will be as awesome as this. My daughter has a shelf that is about a foot from her ceiling that I placed it on and she gets a great projection all the way across her room. I really like that it shuts itself off after 10 minutes, that way I don't have to go in and turn it off every night to save battery life. We love this light and I would totally recommend this product based on our experience!

My 4 year old daughter loves rainbows - so we had to get this for her. She LOVES it. She has to have it on every night - she even "made" us take it with us on our trip to grandma's house (it is light, small and easily packable).A plus is that it runs on batteries - so it can be placed nearly everywhere. (Just be sure to buy some rechargeable AAA's.)A slight downside is that it does turn itself off after about 10-15 minutes - which is good to save on batteries - but bad when you daughter yells from her room for you to turn it back on!Also, you do have to be pretty close to a wall - the light is not so powerful that you can beam a giant rainbow from 20 feet away.

JUST like the photos show, there is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple in the light. Perfect in a dim or dark room, you can see all the colors splayed on the wall. Make a small rainbow by keeping the product closer to the wall, make a larger rainbow by, obviously, placing the product further from the surface you want it displayed. Can purchase an AC adapter to plug into wall, or use AAA batteries. The LEDs are bright- we had to keep telling the 5 year old who wanted to show it off to everyone, to be watchful of how she is holding the light so as not to shine it into anyone's eyes. To any kid OR adult who loves rainbows, this is such a cute idea. Small footprint, it can be easily set on a small night stand. There are two options in which the rainbow lights up: all at once, or one color at a time. Very cute. Several of the adults wanted to purchase one for themselves!

I love this little gadget. Its extremely light and seems 'dinky' but this sucker packs a punch. The price was rather high but I suppose for a unique product like this its ok to blow a few extra bucks. The rainbow is so perfect and super visible in a dark room, no other night light can compete with this ones beauty. U can make the size of the rainbow super small all the way up to super large, depending on how far or close you have the projection from the wall, and the colors don't fade. All my bulbs work even though I read others reviews who had faulty projectors, mine seems to do everything it should and I've left it on over night numerous times and still no fade or loss of bulbs. I've owned mine about a month now and I LOVE it.

I don't understand the negative reviews... we've had ours for over 2 years now and it never disappoints. My daughter received it when she was 3 and at 5 she still loves it!It's not a laser beam so don't expect it to illuminate an already light-filled room. In a reasonably dark room at night it makes a very noticeable spectrum across a wall and / or ceiling. It purposely shuts off over time to conserve batteries so it's not meant to act as a true nightlight. No it's not a science toy -- it uses color LEDs to create the rainbow. And it definitely doesn't look like the manufacturer's photos -- the rainbow isn't suspended in air like a real rainbow. Well... maybe if you had a room full of water vapor.At one point recently I thought mine was broken as 3 of the 5 lights stopped illuminating. Though it was counter-intuitive to think this was a battery issue, I replaced the batteries and bingo -- good as new. We don't use ours excessively so the batteries have lasted 2 years. If you use yours a lot, get a universal AC adapter and go crazy.

When I saw this my inner child was like WHAAAATTTT and ordered it stat, for my 4 year old's birthday. I was sad that it does not actually emit a rainbow through the air like I foolishly had hoped it would. But I was not surprised either. It's definitely worth the money and the kiddos love it. Great night light I love that it turns off after ten minutes and that its small and doesn't take up much room.Only con is that it might be to bright, daughter complains that the top light on it blinds her if i have it positioned in a certain way, so as long as its pointing away from her all is good.

This seemed to be the perfect gift for my 5 year old granddaughter who's always been fascinated by rainbows. It absolutely was one of her top 5 at her party. What I didn't expect, however, is that it was one of those things that was a hit with her four young cousins, all 5 years old and under. When it was opened, batteries had to be immediately installed and the whole group filed into a bedroom with backout curtains. Suddenly those of us in the living room heard the screams of five little girls when they all saw the rainbow projected into the room. Now it's a must for the other girls for the next gifting opportunity.The only drawback I could see is that there is a connector for an AC adapter but there is no obvious information provided for the appropriate adapter to order - not a part number, not a source, nothing that says "this is what you need and here's where to find it."Despite the AC adapter issue, the desired effect was definitely achieved. :)
